Challenge

A client found themselves for a period of time without a CEO leading the organisation and the Trustees had energetically and with great heart, stepped into a more detailed, operational role.  As part of a restructure process, a new management team was promoted into place with a mix of previous and new members from within and external to the organisation.  However, they had no point of direction and leadership until a new Director/CEO was appointed and they had many Trustees to answer to, often with different opinions and processes.

Process

Appleshed’s Director, Katrina Appleyard, was asked to step in to guide the new management team, coach and mentor them individually and manage the communication between Trustees and management whilst the search began for a new CEO /Director.  Over 6 months, the new team met weekly under Katrina’s guidance and managed many projects including grant reporting requirements, annual business planning and budgeting, staff communication, operational challenges, COVID measures and pricing strategy review and design.

Katrina’s coaching style is to listen, care, support and encourage reflection. She offers constructive suggestions and helps open doors by offering tools for balancing work and life. She has a way of making the experience feel like talking to a friend on a country walk.

Senior Curator and Museum Manager,

Conclusion

By the time a new Director had been appointed and was moving into position, the new management team had moved to a new version of team working, and the organisation had fared better than expected financially. The organisation’s new Director was handed a team of hard working and excited managers who knew their roles well and were ready to move to a new way of being.
