Challenge

An organisation was asked by its Trustees to carry out a 5-year business planning and budgeting process.  They had embarked on some SWOT and PESTLE analyses, considered their values and looked at their core objectives and identified SMART actions, so were well on their way.  The challenge was lining all this up with the finances and a 5-year time frame and the Director and Senior Team needed some help.

Process

Appleshed’s Director, Katrina Appleyard, was called in to pull the whole thing together, from the core documents to the justification of the financial forecasts. Over 6 weeks, Katrina guided the team to consider core requirements for a business plan and budgetary process, highlighted any gaps in content or supporting evidence, guided different members of the senior team to produce their required elements for the overall document and liaised with Trustees as to progress and the need for final Board sign-off.

Conclusion

For the first time, this organisation had done the work to consider its future and how it was justifying its forecasts and plans. Appleshed had been critical in both project management and relationship management between the Trustees, the Director and the Senior Management Team. With Appleshed’s help, they also created core master documents to revert to for re-evaluation when the time for the annual review came around.
